This list is an ongoing project, where I am compiling modern paranormal and mythical cases from various sources. The hope is that you can use it to get the basic information a subject, as well as find sources where you can get more information. This list is updated regularly, as I’m continually working on adding in new cases, and updating old ones.

Van
Lake Monster (aka Lake Van Monster) - A large reptilian monster
believed to inhabit Van Lake in Turkey. Described as similar to a
crocodile or dinosaur, dark brown, with a horse-like head.

Sightingmay date back over 1000 years, with a historic church on an
island in lake, being decorated with images of aquatic monsters.

Van
Meter Visitor - in 1903, a large half-bat, half-man monster known as
the Visitor started to appear. Some believed it to have come from a
coal mine, which previously believed to be haunted. It has a horn on
it’s head that can emit a bright white light. It is also known to
screech, and release a foul memory erasing gas. Several prominent
men, 2 business men, the bank manager, a doctor, and nightshift tile
and brick workers, saw the creature, always at 1:00 am (this was
before electric lighting). Several men banded together and used
dynamite to close the mouth of the mine. That was believed to be the
end of things, until recent years when the local librarian went out
to the abandon factory and encountered the Visitor.

Varginha
Aliens - A large headed growling creature harasses townsfolk. Officer
Cherese takes the creature to a hospital, where military personnel
seize control of it. He is touched during the encounter, and dies a
week later of mass infections. Soon after strangers arrive, bullying
civilians and military personal not to talk about it, and the papers
later report the creatures as having been dwarves.

Ghost Ship - A phantasmal ship that appears every 30 yrs on August
15th, seems to bring good fortune (good fishing hauls, thefts

Villisca
Ax Murder House - The Moore family and some neighbor girls were
brutally murdered in this house, in 1912. It is believed the
killer(s) waited in the attic, smoking. He hacked and smashed up the
family and friends, and the bodies were not found until morning. The
local reverend had left by train the same morning, and when caught,
confessed, saying voices told him to do it. However there was no
evidence that he did it. Many believed the killer’s ghost now
haunts the house. After the murders, it took 6 months free rent to
finally lured a couple to move into the home, they left the next
morning. Decades later, a new family moved in, they lasted a bit
longer, until the father’s hand was stabbed. Activity Includes;
apparitions of a man with an axe, footsteps on the stairs, whimpering
sounds, moved and ransacked objects, sounds of objects being thrown
forcefully, the attic door moving, and being grabbed.

Villisca is a Native American name, and means ‘place of evil
spirits’, because it’s where they buried the bodies of those that
were insane in life.

Voodoo
Zombies (aka Voodoo Zombee) - Often linked to black magic, there is
actually nothing paranormal about their situation at all. Such
zombies are ordinary people, poisoned so they appear dead, who are
dug up by the witch-doctor/Voodoo priest (boko) who poisoned them,
and fed an antidote along with more poisons. Poisoned and
brain-damaged, these zombies then make cooperative slaves.

Voodoo priests are believed to get power from Baron Samedi, the
voodoo lord of the dead.

Voynich
Manuscript - A bizarre document written in an unknown language or
code, was discovered in 1812 (check date), in a Jesuit library. A
letter from 1616 (check date) was inside, suggesting that Bacon wrote
the book, and it involved alchemy. It may of course be a wonder book
(even if Bacon made it), designed to indecipherable and bring in
money. But some believe the spiral pattern in the document to be a
galaxy, and that the items drawn inside are of a world there.

Vulture
City - The dilapidated ghost town around Vulture Mine, believed to be
haunted by the souls of the miners and the community that had
surrounded them. Activity includes; EVPs, ovilus hits, spirit box
hits, MEL hits, light pod hits, voices, footsteps (with sand falling
between the floorboards above), clanking sounds, piano music (from a
broken piano), apparitions (choppy silhouettes, ), sensation of being
pushed, thrown rocks, 'orbs', and film anomalies.

Mine - A mine with a history of violence and corruption, which is
believe to be haunted by greedy prospectors. However it is generally
too dangerous for investigation. A collapse in 1923, was caused by
greedy miners secretly trying to mine the support columns, their
bodies were never found.

(aka Ewah, Wampus Beast, Wampus Cat) - A large black cat-like
creature believed to mutilate livestock, similar to a cougar. In
variations of it's description, it may be yellow, have a spiked tail,
or extra legs. It is said to scream like a woman. Like some stories
of banshees, it is said someone will die in 3 days if you hear her
cry. Some accounts say it can be warded off by reading from the Holy
Bible.

Legend says that the Wampus (or Ewah) was once a Native American
woman, transformed into a killer cat by her need for vengeance, or by
a shaman as punishment for spying on the tribe's men.

The crew of Mountain Monsters referred to the 'Wampus' they were
'chasing' as male, implying there are multiple Wampus. But this could
also be linguistic, in the same vein as calling all rodents, rats.

Air Force Base UFO - While a UFO is seen overhead, 5 missile control
computers went offline, leaving 50 missile with compromised launch
control. Air Force only acknowledges the computer failure and says it
was fixed in an hour, while anonymous sources claim it took days.

Babies - Small gnome-like humanoids that live in the Tule river
according to Native American legends. They are said to sneak into
homes and smother people in their sleep.

Waverly
Hills Sanitarium - An abandon hospital/asylum built in 1910, where
many died of tuberculosis (Kentucky having the highest number of
cases), which is now believed to be haunted. In particular, there are
rumors of satanic activities and suicides (the head nurse hanging
herself, and another nurse jumping) in room 502. The body chute
(tunnel of death) is also considered a hotspot, and one of the
locations equipment is said to be most likely to die. There is also
rumored to be a demonic entity (the Creeper) that crawls the floors,
walls, and ceiling of the 4th floor, emitting an aura of doom.
Activity includes; apparitions (little girl in the 3rd story window,
a girl in white with bleeding wrists who crawls around on the floor,
a black entity the holds doors closed, a man in a lab coat sometimes
seen with another man), black masses, shadows having horns/antlers,
the sensation of being followed, bleeding floors, doors shutting and
slamming, rocks/cement thrown (or just falling, it is dilapidated),
hair pulling and groping, being hit/scratched, being breathed on, the
sounds of footsteps and banging, voices (saying, “get out” and
moaning), hallways that change, equipment malfunctions (EMF meters
having severe breakdowns, flashlights dying, camera audio going out,
batteries being drained, phones turning themselves on [and melting if
you answer them]), orbs (probably just dust and bugs), cold
spots/snaps, photo anomalies, and ovilus hits.

Wendigo
- An evil spirit from Native American lore (at least as old as the
1500s), which stalks, possess, and eats people. It appears as a gaunt
frozen monster, white in color, with antlers, that may even have the
appearance of engaging in self cannibalism. It is said that when it
possesses people, it causes them to engage in cannibalism, often of
loved ones or rivals. Some consider a person under the Wendigo’s
grasp to now be Wendigo, and they will never be human again.

Best known cases is that of Swift Runner a Native American guide and
trapper who ate his family over the winter, including their bone
marrow. He insisted he was the Wendigo at his hanging.

Some believe the 2008 greyhound decapitation (perpetrator Vincent Li)
to have been the result of a Wendigo possession, and some witnesses
claim they saw him eating his victim’s flesh.

Westminster
Burial Ground and Catacombs (aka Western Burial Grounds) - One of
several cemeteries that supplied Davidges' Hall with bodies for
students to dissect. It is believed to be haunted by author Edgar
Allen Poe and others whose graves were desecrated. Activity includes
apparitions, voices (General Swan), creepy feelings, battery drain,
and temperature changes.

Werewolf
- A person forced to assume a wolf or half-wolf form at night, during
the full moon, or through demonic magic such as a salve or wolfskin.
Similar to Rougarou, Dogman, and Skinwalkers. Werewolf legends are
particularly common in Europe and the USA. The earliest known
werewolf legend comes from Ancient Greece, in which King Lycaon was
turned into a wolf by Zeus, as punishment for killing children.
Historically, multiple serial killers have been accused or being, or
claimed to be werewolves.

The medical condition, a delusion in which one believes oneself to be
a werewolf, is called Clinical Lycanthropy.

wolves, bears, dogs, and other animals.

Whatsoever
Community Center - A center dedicated to providing activities for
children and families, that is failing due to being haunted. It was
formerly a schoolhouse, and a home for unwed mothers. May be haunted
by an amateur boxer, Tex, who had epilepsy and died while bathing.
Activity includes; footsteps, apparitions (young girl, 2 girls in
white at the top of the stairs only seen by kids, young boxer),
shadows or shadow people, being grabbed, the sensation of spirits
passing through one's body, boxing bags swing on their own, boxing
match timer bell and light will go off without being set, and photo
anomalies.

Activity is said to have decreased (not stopped) since the removal of
a bottle of epilepsy medicine and some packs of smelling salts.

Eagle - Former brothel, that is now believed to be haunted. Activity
includes, child’s weeping, flying objects, doors shutting, and a

some believe their ghosts as well.

Queen Wilhelmina (Netherlands) slept in the Lincoln bedroom, and was
awoken by a knocking on the door. When she opened it, the apparition
of Lincoln himself was standing there.

Whiteman
Air Force Base, UFO sighting - A father and son see a triangular
shaped UFO with 3 pale orange lights around the edges, being chased
by two fighter planes over Whiteman Air Force Base. They called other
people who describe the object as they’d seen it.

Wildman
- The Vietnamese equivalent of Bigfoot, also reported in nearby
countries. They are said to be smaller than Bigfoot, and local
legends say that if they catch you, they will hold you until
nightfall when they’ll eat you. In Cambodia wildmen are believed to
steal food and livestock from villagers, and are commonly described
as half-human, half-monkey.

being rescued.

Correctional Facility - New York State Prison was once an asylum, and
is now believed that several of the patients’ spirits are still
trapped there. There are several unmarked graves in the nearby
cemetery, a common practice for such patients. There may also be a
demon, and a nurse named Lucy.

Library - State's first public library, funded by eccentric Mr.
Willard, and is believed to be haunted by his daughter who was angry
her father left most his money to the library. Activity includes; the
apparition of a lady in grey, the scent of cheap perfume.

Winchester
Mystery House - Sarah Winchester, under the guidance of a psychic,
spends the family fortune building a labyrinth like manor to appease
the ghost of those killed by Winchester rifles. The house in now
believed to be haunted by her ghost and 2 others. Activity includes;
apparitions, lights (in rooms without electric), air pressure
changes, creaks and whispers, and organ music.

Witching
Hour - The period between 3 and 4 am, when paranormal activity is
supposed to be the most intense. Alternate times (12 nm - 1 am, 3.30
- 4:30am) have been suggested by some researchers. In Japan the time
period linked to the paranormal is usually 3.33 - 4.44 am, or 4:44 am
- 5 am, due to 4 (Shi) sounding like the word for death.
Witch
of Armor Hill (aka, Phantom Virago, Mary) - A phantasmal woman who
appears only to men, she is said to scream, jumps on victim's backs,
and verbally curse them. She is followed by the smell of smoke.
Origin stories claim she was a prostitute, Mary, who was saving up
for better life. But was knocked out by the man who was supposed to
convince her to stay, when she threatened to announce her client
list. He and his co-conspirators claimed she was a witch and burned
her at the stake, but before dying, she cursed them.

Road - An old road and abandon house where people see the apparition
of a little girl.

A Haunting - Episode 47: Legend Trippers]
Wolfe
Manor - Once a sanitarium, this location is believed to be very
haunted, and is claimed to be one of the most haunted places in North
America. Some speculate the entities to be demonic in nature. The
basement, where bodies were once stored, is said to be most active.
Aside from the medical deaths, 2 murders and a suicide are believed
to have occurred here in the 1980’s. Activity includes; physical
touch, depression, video and photo anomalies, temperature drops and
rises, voices and EVP, EMF fluctuations, and apparitions.

Wolfman
of Wolfe County - A hairy monster said to terrorize the county.
Despite it’s name, some believe it to be half bear, half gorilla.
It is said to be around 7 ft tall, and weigh around 500 lbs.

creature, while filming trees that had been struck by lighting to
show his wife.
